Here's what we played in the Tango Cheshire DJ set from the practica on 14 November 2024.

As Armistice Day was recently observed on 11th November we played two versions of Silencio. The first up beat Francisco Canaro version with Ernesto Famá singing the estribillo is markedly different in all respects to the haunting full song recorded by Imperio Argentina with guitar accompaniment.

If you are not familiar with this tango I encourage you to look up the lyrics to understand why this is such an important reminder of the suffering caused in the Great War. While the story told in the song is fictional, the tango was inspired by the events of one real family of the time.
